Photo Assignment 7 - Light Painting

For this assignment I decided to try light painting. I used a flashlight and a dark room to take these photos. My mom helped me out by being a model for them and doing different poses while I used the light to make cool effects.

Gimp Assignment 7 - Puns

In this assignment we had to make 3 pictures of puns in gimp. I came up with the puns by myself and then went on google images and selected pictures and pasted them together to make funny puns.

Pun 1: Hold your horses
Pun 2: Home run
Pun 3: Ruby Tuesday

Photo Assignment 6 - Event

For this assignment I chose to take pictures of an event. I went out to a girl's lacrosse game and took action shots of them playing. I learned that I needed to have a fast shutter speed in order to capture the image without having a lot of blur in it. I also had to take a lot of shots so I got exactly the right ones I wanted.

Gimp Assignment 6 - Picture Dictionary

In this assignment I used gimp to make 4 picture dictionaries. I used flickr to find photos of a word that I looked up in the dictionary. I typed the definition and and pasted the pictures to make a collage.

In this assignment I learned how to look up words in the dictionary app and get photos from creative commons on flickr. I also used gimp more in depth for the picture dictionaries.

Portrait Demo

In this assignment we had to take two different portrait photos. There was a setup with lights in the library where we got a really professional looking photo. For the other photo we went in the stairwell and held a bounce card to reflect the sunlight on to the subject's face.

I learned how professional portraits are taken in this assignment. To take good photos it is important to have a have a lot of light. I also learned how to use a bounce card and all about the lights that professionals use.

Assignment 4- Light and Shadows

For this asignment I decided to take pictures of shadow and light. I set up two pieces of white paper for my background and got a lamp that I could hold over the objects. For some of the photos I just put objects like perfume bottles and shined the light on one side of them to create a shadow. For my best photo I turned all of the lights off and put a candle in a fancy holder and I liked it because there was light and shadows incorporated into the photo.

What I learned from this assignment was that to create good shadows of an object you need to have a light source on one side. Also, it is important to have interesting objects like candles and strawberries so you can see really nice details.

Gimp 4

In this assignment, I had to go take a picture of something in the school. I took a picture of the basketball court in the gym. Then, I had to go online to google images and get photos and then edit them in gimp. I would select just the people and then paste them into my picture.

While doing this project, I learned how to use a lot of new things in gimp. I cropped, selected people, copied and pasted into a different picture, scaled, and changed the color levels.  In doing this, it was important to get the right picture and add new layers every time you added a new image.

Motion Demo

In this assignment Mr. O'Donnell rode around outside on his motorcycle and we took pictures of him. When he would start to come by I had to pan the camera and take it at the right second to get a good picture. I got a nice photo with a little bit of blur in the background.

ISO:80
F/8.0
Shutter speed: 1/120

What I learned from this assignment was how to do motion photos. It is important to pan and continue on panning after you press the shutter because that will create a blurred look in the background and I think after a couple tries I achieved that in my photo.

Macro- Assignment 3

In this assignment I went to the lake by my house and took pictures of things in the sand and water. I did this to show the texture of the sand and show the details of the objects.

shutter speed: 1/1250
fstop 3.2
Iso: 80

What I learned from this assignment was that for macro it is important to have a small fstop. Also, I learned how to edit photos in photoshop and they have many different options.

Gimp Panoramic

For this assignment I took 3 photos, moving the camera a little bit each time so I could create a panoramic photo. I made sure to keep my hand steady so the photos would match up with each other. When I got back to the lab I used gimp and used cloning, erasing, and cropping to make the photos look like one really wide photo.

What I learned from this project was that editing 3 photos to make them panoramic is a difficult task. There are a lot of things that you have to do to make the photos look real and make sure they have no lines in them. Also, it is really important to keep your hand steady when taking the pictures so you have to do less editing in gimp. I learned how to use the eraser, and I used cloning more than I have before.

Nature: Assignment 2

For this assignment I took photos of nature. Since it is early spring, many of the flowers were just starting to bloom and I used the macro setting on my camera. It had just rained, so the flowers and plants had raindrops on them and I had the opportunity to take some nice pictures.

Exposure Triangle:
Iso: 400
Aperture: f 2.8
Exposure: 1/250 sec

What I learned from this project was how to take good pictures of nature. I learned the best time to go out was in the morning because the flowers are just starting to bloom. I had make sure one item in the photo was in focus and the rest was blurry so there was a nice depth of field.

Gimp Car Editing

For this assignment I used gimp to retouch a car. I had to use different techniques to accomplish this task. What I learned from this was how to use effects like cloning, so I could take out the shiny reflections on the car. I also learned how to play with the color levels and black out a background.

Assignment 1 - Architecture

For this first assignment I chose to do architecture. I decided to pick this project because there are a lot of different things I could take pictures of that would fit in this category. It is good we have a school with modern and interesting windows, stairs, and doors because this is where all of my photos came from.
ISO: 800
Fstop: 7.1
Exposure:  1/25 sec

From doing my first assignment I learned it is much more difficult than you might think to get a good picture. You really have to work and set the settings so the photo will look more enhanced. Trying to get the right picture takes a lot of time and effort and I became more familiar with the camera than  I was before.

For this assignment I learned how to use gimp and make a pop art photo. I was not familiar with this program but found it very easy. I learned how to crop, resize, enhance colors, and make it black and white.

Composition Assignment

For this assignment, we had to research 11 different elements of composition. I went around in the school and took pictures of things I thought best represented these elements.
Rule of Thirds = "Sean against whiteboard"
Pattern = "windows in commons"
Symmetry = "ceiling of hallway"
Texture = "wall of stones"
Depth of Field = "Abraham on floor"
Lines = "wall with folds"
Framing = "Abraham behind door"
Perspective = "ceiling tile lifted up"
Space = "Car on road"
Balance = "shoes on stairs"
Color = "fire alarm"

From this assignment, I learned how to use the camera. My camera at home isn't as complicated as this one but I caught on very quickly and it is very easy to use. Another thing I leaned how to use was Blogger because this is my first blog post I ever made and have never tried blogging before.
